As "The King", a cowboy, or CP Tri team president, Brandon was someone you'd never forget. His larger-than-life personality guaranteed that if he was around you would be making everlasting memories. But Brandon's jokes and fun-loving antics were only part of what made him so special. He fully committed himself to everything he did. Luckily, for those of us on the tri team during the early 2000s his vision and goals for the team were big. He wanted to make us the biggest and best club on campus and the fastest team in the nation. Due to his ability to lead and inspire people to be their best we were able to achieve many of these goals. During his tenure as  the tri team president the team grew from 30 to over 100 people, making it the largest club on campus, visibility of the team in the community grew through the design of the first ever custom tri team jersey, organizing the trek to Memphis for Nationals, and of course, the CP tri team cheer!

After graduating Brandon continued to play a role in the Cal Poly tri team, advising presidents and mentoring upcoming leaders. He continued to stay involved in the sport of triathlon, completing Ironman Coeur de Alene, Ironman Canada, and Ironman Lake Placid. He completed the California International Marathon multiple times. He participated in the Trans Tahoe Relay annually and just last year completed the Swim Around Key West 12.5 mile open water swim. He also competed for the Peninsula Velo cycling team and SF Tri Club.

He even hosted his own triathlon, The Black Butte Triathlon, which was eventually gifted to the Chico State Tri team. He stayed loyal to his CP roots and was very active in his local Cal Poly alumni group, hosting events and connecting people.

To honor his memory and ensure he continues to play an important role in the lives of Cal Poly students, we're creating a Cal Poly scholarship in Brandon’s name. For this scholarship to continue in perpetuity we need to raise a minimum of $25,000. But, in true Brandon fashion we’re going big. Brandon never once set a goal of simply meeting a minimum. We’re setting a lofty goal of $50,000 and think with your support we can make this goal a reality.

To reach this initial threshold of funding we are counting on you and all CP tri team alumni, family and friends to give in Brandon's honor and have a lasting impact.  Please consider making a $5,000, $1,000, $500, $250, or any size gift for this fund.

Thank you for donating to the Brandon L. Drew Triathlon Scholarship at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to recognize a future inspirational student leader on the current CP Tri Team.
